TRANSVALOR: A French SME Expanding to Southeast Asia

Résumé
Transvalor is a French SME who proposes scientific simulation software for metal and plastic forming processes. The company has expanded to foreign markets through direct and indirect exporting, and by establishing greenfield subsidiaries and sales offices. The new management team aims to increase international sales, notably in Southeast Asia. This region offers interesting growth perspectives in manufacturing industries. Prepared in close cooperation with the SME, this case-study provides detailed information about the international expansion of Transvalor and the characteristics of Southeast Asian markets. Students are asked to analyze the SME's internationalization strategy and to choose the countries and market entry modes for the company's expansion to Southeast Asia.
Objectifs pédagogiques
- To familiarize students with the characteristics of Southeast Asian markets
- To make students aware of the internationalization process of SMEs:

- Preparing an analysis of the company's situation on international markets (strengths/weaknesses, opportunities/threats)
- Analyzing the SME's internationalization strategy (choice of geographic markets, market entry modes and speed of internationalization)
- Selecting the most promising markets in Southeast Asia, by analyzing the data provided in the case study
- Choosing the most appropriate market entry modes in the targeted countries, by analyzing their advantages and their drawbacks
