Coface is a French multinational specialized in trade credit risk management and employs +5,200 people, of whom 610 work in the Asia-Pacific region. The company is facing multiple intercultural challenges at the Singapore branch and in the relationships with other local teams (Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam).
This case was prepared in close collaboration with Coface Singapore. Students are asked to analyze cultural differences by using the Hofstede and GLOBE studies, to identify intercultural challenges faced by the Singapore branch and to propose solutions for managing intercultural relationships in the Asia-Pacific region.
The case concerns intercultural challenges faced by Coface in the Asia-Pacific region:
- compare the cultural values of Hofstede's study for France and the 14 Asia-Pacific countries in which Coface employs local teams,
- compare the cultural values of the GLOBE study for France and the 14 Asia-Pacific countries in which Coface employs local teams,
- analyze the intercultural challenges that Coface is facing at the Singapore branch and in the Asia-Pacific region,
- propose solutions to Coface for better managing intercultural relationships at the Singapore branch and in the Asia-Pacific region.
