Diabetes is a major health burden in GCC countries, mainly caused by sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy eating habits. While governments are setting up national strategies to manage diabetes and chronic diseases, the implementation is still fragmented. The case documents the challenges faced by patients and healthcare professionals dealing with diabetes.

Learning objectives: The case gives the perspective of patients, physicians, nurses, regulators and insurers dealing with diabetes. It gives an insight on gaps in diabetes management and opens the discussion of the development and implementation of effective strategies to manage chronic diseases and public health, including the integration of healthcare services.
